The Tropical Regency Guru
There is a reason Circa Who Furniture has over 50,000 followers and sales in every continent. The owner Scott Mast is a passionate workaholic that is obsessed with finding the next vintage treasure. From his store in Northwood in West Palm Beach he has created an international brand that has a cult following among celebrities, designers, and vintage aficionados.
He describes his style as Tropical Hollywood Regency. With the relaunch of The Colony Hotel and the arrival of Hive furniture and design stores, this Palm Beach look has become cool again. Incoming northerners used to come to Florida to retire, but now younger families are moving here searching for the tropical design look after abandoning winters and embracing our lifestyle. Circa Who is the capital of Tropical Hollywood Regency and it is glamorous, cool and fun. Palm Beach has evolved from the boring Lilly Pulitzer/Brooks Brothers 80s to a destination where even Gwyneth Paltrow is trying to be a part of (she recently created a Goop Villa at The Colony Hotel).
Watch the interview to discover how he started his second company Mario Lopez Torres. For years designers have been searching for handmade reed furniture made by Mario Lopez Torres in the 60s and 70s. It was a score if you found a piece made from this family of artisans in Mexico. Scott Mast travelled there to meet with Mario and convince him to produce these magical pieces again. When we visited the store monkeys were on the way to Lebanon, a giraffe bar to Sydney and chairs to Rome. We will be saving up for the monkey bar we first saw at the Kips Bay Decorator Show.
