NEVIN Kumar
The Pairings Guru
Nevin Kumar discovered the amazing Chèvre Miami a couple of years ago when he moved here from California. He quickly became friends with owner Mario Naar and became a loyal customer of this small local cheese shop with a cultlike following for its sandwiches and charcuterie boards. Nevin is a Sommelier and Cicerone with 25 years of experience in hospitality and a passion for pairing wine and beer with interesting food. Together they began playing with flavors and combinations like Strawberry Lambics and Chevre’s famous Camembert Basque Cheesecake.
Earlier this year they opened La Bibliothèque around the corner from Chèvre and through RESY you can reserve one of the twelve seats in this charming U-shaped bar. Sit back and try twelve different wines and learn about the vineyards that produced them and foods that marry well with them. The themes are fun like Italy vs. France, a Cheese and Wine Masterclass or Cabernet Blends from Around the World.
This intimate roomwith a gorgeous ceiling painted by artist Antonyo Marest is the perfect setting for a fun birthday or a team building outing. So maybe you know your Cabs from your Burgs and really want to get into unique IPAs or Belgian Trappist Ales? Nevin Kumar is not only a Certified Sommelier but he is also a Cicerone.
“ I find that wine can accomplish a lot with pairings because you basically have something that has a tart, sour finish. It is basically like having vinegar that you can pour on a salad and on food. But beer is bread. And beer can malted or caramelized or baked or roasted or smoked in so many different ways. So any dish that you eat or any food that you have that would go well with bread will go well with beer. And there is 140 styles out there. I am a certified Cicerone which is a beer sommelier. I am one of a handful to be both certified as a Sommelier with the court of Masters as well as a Cicerone”.
