ERIC Poses
The Game Guru
“I am a board game inventor. I invent board games.” Meet Eric Poses, owner and operator of All Things Equal, a Miami Beach-based board game company he started 26 years ago when he drove around the country selling his first game, “Loaded Questions”, out of the trunk of his car. Today he has sold more than 3 million copies and has invented 12 different funny, family party games (and a few adult ones). We couldn’t wait to meet this Guru. He has what sounded like the most fascinating and fun job ever. He invents funny board games that people of all ages love. Talk about a dream job.
Eric invited us to his home for the interview and had us in stitches as he walked us around telling anecdotes about his eclectic art collection, including his favorite new project “the Pantheon of funny people”- framed prints of his favorite comedians (Dave Chapelle, Kurt Vonnegut, and Chris Farley to name a few) made by the Philadelphia artist who illustrates his games. Eric likes to surround himself with things that make him laugh. He curates and creates comedic experiences for himself, his family and friends, and that is what he does for his customers with his games. His games get people talking, thinking, and laughing, and best of all spending time together with no screens. His sense of humor runs the gamut and can be light-hearted, a little dark, or downright bawdy, so he has games that appeal to all. We tried Awkward Family Photos using 300 movie quotes to caption hilarious family photos, and the kids decided on their Worst Case Scenario, and we all had a blast.
Eric is a self-proclaimed homebody, but he will venture out for his one weakness…tacos.
Watch the full interview to hear about how he came up with his first game idea on his way to pick up an ex-girlfriend, hilarious stories of his road trips, and his favorite games.
