The Vinyl Guru
Who would have thought that vinyl culture could thrive in Miami? Lolo Reskin did, and we couldn’t wait to meet her, the founder and owner of Sweat Records. When we met Lolo in her store in Little Haiti, she explained that growing up in Kendall, she loved going to smaller music and vinyl shops, but by the time she graduated high school and college and returned home, a lot of them had closed. She worked in a big, huge music store and also DJ’d indie nightclubs and booked bands. Sweat Records has now been in this space in Little Haiti for 15 years and is not only a Miami institution, but also on almost every top 10 list for “best record store” in the country.
Watch our interview to learn Lolo’s recommendations of best places to listen to live music and hear her stories of the 80s Miami music scene and how Hurricane Wilma almost derailed her plans to open a record store in Little Haiti.
